Resumo | Abstract

Nossa pesquisa se insere no campo disciplinar da Historiografia, estudando o trabalho de um dos autores mais relevantes da virada do século XIX para o XX, que é o historiador da arte alemão Aby Warburg (1966-1929). No escopo de sua produção teórica, selecionamos um tema que ocupou centralidade de sua preocupação intelectual: a Antiguidade. Partindo desse tema, desdobramos nossa pesquisa em três linhas de investigação distintas e complementares entre si, que fazem frente as seguintes interrogações: 1) qual a inovação hermenêutica proposta por Warburg com relação a interpretação da Antiguidade?; de que modo essa nova compreensão influenciou sua análise estilística da cultura pictórica do Renascimento?; e 3) é correto afirmar que os estudos por ele empreendidos após a viagem à América do Norte o encaminhou para a ideia de uma antiguidade que aponta para uma estrutura psíquica primitiva elementar que é objetivada nos produtos simbólicos em diferentes contextos culturais e históricos? Acreditamos que responder a esses questionamentos irá nos proporcionar um entendimento amplo e profundo deste tema que é vital no conjunto da obra warburguiana, sendo este objetivo justificado pelo atual contexto de difusão de suas teorias no Brasil, onde suas ideias tem ganhado cada vez mais espaço no âmbito acadêmico.

Our research is part of the disciplinary field of Historiography, studying the work of one of the most relevant authors from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, the German art historian Aby Warburg (1966-1929). In the scope of his theoretical production, we selected a theme that occupied the centrality of his intellectual concern: Antiquity. Based on this theme, we unfolded our research in three distinct and complementary lines of investigation, which face the following questions: 1) what is the hermeneutic innovation proposed by Warburg regarding the interpretation of Antiquity?; how did this new understanding influence your stylistic analysis of Renaissance pictorial culture?; and 3) is it correct to state that the studies undertaken by him after his trip to North America led him to the idea of ​​an antiquity that points to an elementary primitive psychic structure that is objectified in symbolic products in different cultural and historical contexts? We believe that answering these questions will provide us with a broad and deep understanding of this theme, which is vital in the whole of Warburg's work, and this objective is justified by the current context of diffusion of his theories in Brazil, where his ideas have been gaining more and more space in the academic environment.
