Resumo | Abstract
O trabalho analise o livro Der Cicerone (1855), de Jacob Burckhardt – exclusivamente do volume I, Architektur –, abordando o olhar do autor sobre obras que considera representativas das melhores manifestações culturais da história da humanidade. Detendo-se majoritariamente sobre exemplares italianos, dado que a obra é fruto de viagem de estudos feita pelo país, a publicação retrata o ponto de vista do historiador que desenvolveu metodologia própria e fundamentada para indicar a melhor forma de contemplar os exemplares significativos da arquitetura italiana. Partindo-se de sua formação em História, verificar-se-á suas influências desde a juventude, vivendo em momento histórico bastante efervescente com relação às mudanças políticas e sociais que ocorriam na Europa do século XIX como um todo. As cartas que escreveu, publicadas em diversas línguas, bem como o arquivo digital de imagens de seu acervo disponibilizadas pela Universidade da Basileia, darão a base para entendimento de sua linha de pensamento e apropriação do que efetivamente produziu, material esse que influenciou figuras muito representativas do pensamento germânico (tais como Wölfflin, Nietsche, Warburg, etc). Extremamente ligado ao mundo das Artes puras e aplicadas, além de preocupado com seu futuro, a linha de pesquisa trabalhará sobre a marcante influência que o autor exerceu para a disseminação da ideia das obras emblem e fora de padrões lineares estritamente científicos ao mesmo tempo em que, fugindo ao método padrão de História, tratar-se-á como sua forma de apreciar Monumentos configurou um conceito de Patrimônio Cultural.
The study analyzes the book Der Cicerone (1855) by Jacob Burckhardt—specifically Volume I, Architecture—addressing the author's perspective on works he considers representative of the finest cultural manifestations in human history. Focusing predominantly on Italian examples, as the book is the result of a study trip through Italy, the publication reflects the viewpoint of a historian who developed a distinct and well-founded methodology to suggest the best ways to contemplate significant examples of Italian architecture. Drawing from his background in History, the research will examine his influences from youth, a period marked by the significant political and social changes occurring throughout 19th-century Europe. The letters he wrote, published in various languages, as well as the digital archive of images from his collection made available by the University of Basel, will serve as a foundation for understanding his line of thought and the appropriation of his output. This material influenced highly prominent figures in German thought (such as Wölfflin, Nietzsche, Warburg, and others). Deeply connected to the world of fine and applied arts, and concerned about its future, the research will explore the remarkable influence Burckhardt exerted in disseminating the idea of emblematic works beyond strictly linear scientific standards. At the same time, deviating from the standard methods of history, the study will address how his approach to appreciating monuments shaped a concept of Cultural Heritage.
