Os debates sobre as dinâmicas do fazer histórico podem se apresentar de maneiras específicas nas distintas tendências analíticas da historiografia, tanto interagindo com as reflexões sobre as categorias fundamentais do campo, quanto a partir de itinerários específicos suscitados pelos seus objetos. Sob tal ótica, este minicurso parte das intersecções entre as historiografias da arte e da literatura para refletir sobre essas duas dimensões das configurações historiográficas. Trata-se de propor uma abordagem crítica de importantes problemáticas suscitadas nos dois campos, encontrando percursos analíticos que possam operar conjuntamente.

Debates on the dynamics of historical practice can manifest in particular ways within different analytical trends of historiography, both through interactions with reflections on the field’s fundamental categories and via specific paths prompted by its objects. From this perspective, the minicourse focuses on the intersections between the historiographies of art and literature to reflect on these two dimensions of historiographic configurations. It aims to propose a critical approach to key issues raised in both fields, identifying analytical paths that may operate in conjunction.

Grupo Warburg e Renascimentos / Grupo HARPA

Este simpósio se dedica à discussão sobre o gênero do retrato na história da arte, abordando as produções artísticas em diferentes suportes - tais como a escultura, pintura, gravura, fotografia -, as teorias e metodologias de pesquisas do período medieval até o século XX, reunindo pesquisadores de diversos níveis e instituições acadêmicas que se dedicam ao tema. Serão debatidas questões referentes ao retrato e às estruturas de poder, ao colecionismo e ao sistema de encomendas, às relações de sociabilidade, ao decolonialismo e às questões raciais, à autorrepresentação, ao uso de teorias e fontes primárias, à afirmação do artista, entre outros. O evento é uma iniciativa da pós-graduação em História da Arte da Unifesp, dos grupos de pesquisa CNPq HARPA - História da Arte, Arquitetura e Patrimônio no Brasil e nas Américas - e Warburg e Renascimentos. Será composto de quatro mesas de comunicações e duas conferências - abertura e encerramento, e ocorrerá nos dias 6 e 7 de maio de 2025.

This symposium is dedicated to the discussion of the portrait genre in art history, addressing artistic productions across various media — such as sculpture, painting, printmaking, and photography — as well as research theories and methodologies from the medieval period to the twentieth century. It brings together researchers from different academic levels and institutions who focus on this subject. Topics to be discussed include portraits and structures of power, collecting practices and the patronage system, sociability relations, decolonialism and racial issues, self-representation, the use of theories and primary sources, the affirmation of the artist, among others. The event is an initiative of the Graduate Program in Art History at UNIFESP, organized in collaboration with the CNPq research groups HARPA — Art History, Architecture, and Heritage in Brazil and the Americas — and Warburg and Renaissances. It will feature four thematic panels and two keynote lectures — an opening and a closing session — and will take place on May 6 and 7, 2025.

Em comemoração aos 15 anos do Departamento de História da Arte da UNIFESP, e em colaboração com o grupo Warburg e Renascimentos, foi realizada, no dia 09 de outubro de 2024, às 14h, a conferência Algumas reflexões em torno das primeiras representações do Brasil no Renascimento, ministrada pelo Professor Pedro Flor, da Universidade Nova de Lisboa e da Universidade Aberta de Lisboa.

In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Department of Art History at UNIFESP, and in collaboration with the Warburg and Renaissances research group, the conference Some Reflections on the First Representations of Brazil during the Renaissance was held on October 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. The lecture was delivered by Professor Pedro Flor, from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the Universidade Aberta de Lisboa.

Professor Cássio Fernandes 

O professor da UNIFESP Cássio Fernandes traça um breve panorama do surgimento e evolução da representação pictórica da figura humana em Florença e Veneza, entre os séculos 15 e 16, levando em consideração sua diversidade de modelos e tendo como base as culturas locais e suas capacidades artísticas. De um lado, o desenvolvimento da tradição florentina, desde a representação de personagens ilustres como observadores de cenas sacras e históricas, nos afrescos de igrejas e palácios, imortalizados pelas mãos de Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, Benozzo Gozzoli, Domenico Ghirlandaio, até o predomínio do retrato individual, marcado inicialmente pelas obras de Leonardo e Rafael. De outro lado, o mundo veneziano, sob a égide da medieval figura dos Doges, modificada pela influência da pintura flamenga a partir de Antonello da Messina, seguindo com os irmãos Bellini, com Giorgione, até a obra de Ticiano.

UNIFESP's professor Cássio Fernandes provides a brief overview of the emergence and evolution of the pictorial representation of the human figure in Florence and Venice, between the 15th and 16th centuries, taking into account their diversity of models and based on local cultures and their artistic capacities . On the one hand, the development of the Florentine tradition, from the representation of illustrious characters as observers of sacred and historical scenes, in the frescoes of churches and palaces, immortalized by the hands of Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, Benozzo Gozzoli, Domenico Ghirlandaio, to the predominance of the individual portrait, initially marked by the works of Leonardo and Rafael. On the other hand, the Venetian world, under the aegis of the medieval figure of the Doges, modified by the influence of Flemish painting from Antonello da Messina, following with the Bellini brothers, with Giorgione, to the work of Titian.
