Resumo | Abstract

Esta tese situa a Traditio Sphaerae no quadro de um mais vasto encadeamento artístico, filosófico e histórico, o qual não pode, evidentemente, ser esvaziado plenamente, mas apenas esboçado em suas linhas gerais. O movimento que se propõe aqui descrever, longe de estar concentrado e fechado sobre si mesmo, encontra-se, muito pelo contrário, ligado por múltiplos vínculos tanto no futuro quando ao passado. Ela constitui apenas um ato, uma fase singular do imenso movimento que possibilitou o indivíduo o pensamento de si mesmo. O sentimento específico de si mesmo e a sua autoconsciência específica. A presente tese procura considerar a história da Traditio Sphaerae sob uma luz que não tem por única finalidade estabelecer e descrever os resultados, mas, ademais, revelar as forças criadoras por meio das quais esses resultados são intimamente elaborados. Portanto, este trabalho está alicerçado em algumas ideias-teses que corroborarão as proposições aqui apresentadas: 1) a fundamentação da esfera celeste em textos e imagens na antiguidade clássica; 2) sobrevivência da Traditio Sphaerae; 3) o paradigma figurativo da esfera. Desse modo, pretende-se cotejar as interpretações cosmológicas anteriores com o momento de figuração das esferas celestes, com o momento de ruptura entre astrologia e astronomia, do pensamento mágico-imagético a o racional- matemático, da arte à ciência, buscando entender em que termos essas imagens corroboraram o processo de desenvolvimento e emancipação das imagens.

This thesis situates the Traditio Sphaerae within the framework of a broader artistic, philosophical, and historical chain, which cannot, of course, be fully exhausted but can only be outlined in its general contours. The movement described here, far from being self-contained and isolated, is, on the contrary, connected by multiple links to both the future and the past. It represents just one act, a singular phase of the vast movement that enabled individuals to think of themselves, fostering a specific sense of self and self-awareness. This thesis seeks to consider the history of the Traditio Sphaerae under a perspective that goes beyond merely establishing and describing its outcomes. Instead, it aims to uncover the creative forces through which these outcomes were intimately crafted. Therefore, this work is grounded in several key ideas that support the propositions presented here: The foundation of the celestial sphere in classical antiquity texts and images; The survival of the Traditio Sphaerae; The figurative paradigm of the sphere. In this way, the study aims to juxtapose earlier cosmological interpretations with the moment of celestial sphere figuration, the rupture between astrology and astronomy, the transition from magical-imagistic thought to rational-mathematical thinking, and the shift from art to science. The goal is to understand how these images contributed to the process of development and emancipation of images.
